In this months Blog I want to talk to you about everyday addictions. Everyday addictions are the compulsive habits that rob us from feeling peace. Most addictions start out from a place of experimentation, peer pressure or the desire to find something that will take our minds off stress.
Addictions are just false needs; we think we need chocolate, we think we need cigarettes, we think we need a glass a wine every night to unwind. When in reality this is a want, not a need. If you were stranded on a desert island, the main necessities for survival would not be chocolate, cigarettes or wine. They would be fresh water, shelter and food.
The important thing is to change your perception on what needs really are. Yes, these substances can help us to relax and that is the blindingly obvious truth about most addictions. We use them as a way to relax because we don't know how to do so without them! Unfortunately, most of us were not taught relaxation techniques at school, or given an emotional education on dealing with stress. However, I truly believe that if we knew how to relax in a natural way, there would be less need for substances like alcohol and cigarettes.
Some substances like chocolate and alcohol can certainly be enjoyable, and I don't want to put you off something you enjoy. What I want for all people is to not be controlled by their cravings.
With the help of techniques like EFT Tapping and The Emotion Code, addictions and cravings are surprisingly easy to clear. On more than one occasion I have worked with someone struggling to keep cravings and addictions at bay, only to find after one session that the desire for said addiction is gone and usually does not return.
