In honour of one of the most prolific authors of children’s books, I thought I would share some of my favourite inspirational quotes. “Try them! Try them!” from Green Eggs and Ham. Bar far my favourite book to read growing up, or should I say, begged my parents to read to me over and over again? Regardless, the message from Green Eggs and Ham is timeless. It's easy to say we don't like something without even trying it, but Sam-I-Am proves that with just a bit of effort, you might find something new to like, or even love. This line is always a good reminder to myself to always try new things. When I am faced with a challenge, I do recite Dr. Seuss to give me to motivation I need. "Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So ... get on your way.” "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” "If things start happening, don't worry, don't stew, just go right along and you'll start happening too.” "You're on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who'll decide where to go." "To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world." “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.” “You're never to old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.” “Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.” “I like nonsense; it wakes up the brain cells.” “You're in pretty good shape for the shape you are in.” Peace, Love and Healing Olivia PSYCH-K – Life Coaching – EFT Tapping – Personal Development – Albany – North Shore – Auckland – New Zealand Procrastination is simply another word for fear. Fear is a topic that comes up in almost all sessions, and while it’s not always said aloud the underlying vibration of fear is almost always present, especially when talking about change and taking action. So why do we do it? What drives us to procrastinate on projects that we actually want to do? Or even projects that we don't want to do?
Well, procrastination helps us avoid criticism, rejection, disappointment and failure. It’s understandable we don't want to experience these things, so why not pretend they’re not even there? It's easier that way, right? Or, maybe not. Procrastination usually happens on projects that we actually want to complete, like getting fit, writing that book, going to that audition, asking that person out on a date. These are all things with a potentially good outcome. We are denying our true feelings when we procrastinate, we are taking away the things we really want to accomplish, while neglecting our biggest dreams. A good question to ask yourself is this; “If I procrastinate, will I be happier? What's important to know here is that procrastination is not bad, it does not make you lazy or a slob. Procrastination acts as a form of self preservation and protection. It is an automatic response to danger. To transform the habit of procrastination, we must believe that we are safe regardless of outcome, thus eliminating the need for procrastination. I had a recent experience with procrastination that I will share with you now. I've been working on a creative project for years, I love what I've created, but I've been hesitant to share it. Luckily, Nick Ortner from The Tapping Solution shared a free download for a tapping sequence on procrastination. It was only 10 minutes long, and even before I finished the tapping rounds, I decided to finally complete my project. Within about 30 minutes it was done. And guess what? I was so happy! I still am happy about it! The whole experience was very liberating. If you've ever read my past blogs, you'll know that I talk about The Leap Of Faith quite often. Releasing procrastination is another way to take a leap of faith. I've been leaping and leaping lately and I am thoroughly enjoying myself. In fact, I look forward to the next leap I have to take. From one positive experience, I've learnt to love the exhilaration of doing something out of my comfort zone. Who knows? I might even become an adrenaline junkie!?!? If you take away anything from this blog post, my hope is that you challenge yourself to not need procrastination any more. Identify and release. The time is now. The time is yours. And if you ever need a helping help, you know where to find me. Until next time, Peace, Love and Healing Olivia PSYCH-K – Life Coaching – Personal Development – EFT Tapping - Albany, North Shore, Auckland As scary as they may seem, taking a leap of faith is exhilarating, exciting and they almost always turn out for the better. I understand, we have resistance to the unknown, what if I don't like it? What if it doesn't work out they way I planned? What if it's worse than things are right now? Sure, these questions will arise when we're trying to make a big decision, but isn't trying and knowing better than not trying and never finding out what if? If you've been looking for a sign to do something that scars you, now is that time.
Still can't find the courage to make that leap of faith? Book and appointment with me and we can easily and gently work through any blocks and resistance to change. Peace, Love and Healing Olivia PSYCH-K – Life Coaching – Personal Development – EFT Tapping - Albany, North Shore, Auckland Its that time of year again when I reflect back on the past years events and review my New Years Resolutions. I have a file of my Resolutions on my computer dating back to 2010, a lot has changed since then, but underneath it all is the yearning for more self love and acceptance and the betterment of my goals.
This year I've decided to do something different with my resolutions. Instead of keeping a file that I look at every few months, I'm going to print it off, decorate the page and post my list in a location that I will frequently look at. My problem in not completing every goal on my list isn’t because I can't do it, or its unachievable, its because I forgot! When something isn't an obvious choice, we forgot to consider it. I wanted to learn to sew this year, but did I? No, because I had no reminder of it. That is what will be different this year, that I'll have reminders and encouragements to peruse more of my goals. In 2014 I had a list of 24 goals to achieve, I'm happy to report that I am completed 11 of those goals. That may not seem like a good success percentage, but the fact is I am satisfied with my efforts. Of course, I wish I had done a little more but some of these goals became irrelevant, unnecessary or certain circumstance didn't allow for it to happen. I am happy to accept that I am human and I know I've developed personally and professionally even when sometimes it didn’t feel like the glowing evaluation I wanted. Some of the dreams I had for myself this year, just weren’t meant to be. Life takes it own course and guided me down an avenue I never thought I would peruse, but I am glad for it. You have to allow for spontaneity, adventure, surprises and setbacks. In his book Be Happy, Dr. Robert Holden says “No amount of self-improvement can make up for any lack of self-acceptance.” Beautifully said and absolutely true. So that is why this year, my focus is on self-acceptance and self-love. I hope that the New Year brings wonderful surprises, excitement, joy, love and healing for you all.
